2026 Outdoor Programme
Wednesday 10 June: “Wirksworth, Derbyshire” Carboniferous limestones and dolomites and an excellent exposure of the Upper Matlock lava. Starting at the National Stone Centre, where there are toilets. Will probably use three different parking locations. Easy walking, including at least one stile.
Saturday 18 July: “Northwich, Cheshire” Salt and the Locks of the Weaver Navigation. An easy walk to see the salt industry and its impact on the landscape, including the reclaimed ‘flashes’. The Weaver Canal and its building stones. A visit to the Lion Salt Works will be included. Entry fee payable for saltworks.
Wednesday 19 August: “Cliviger area, Lancashire” Namurian strata at Acre Nook and Gorpley Cloughs. Further details available nearer the time.
Wednesday 9 September: “White Scar Cave and the nearby Ingletonian, North Yorkshire”. Further details available nearer the time.
